Our client is a well-established and highly regarded civil infrastructure contractor with a strong reputation for delivering complex projects across New Zealand.
With a strong forward workload and continued growth across the North Island, they are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join their Auckland-based team.
The Role
The Operations Manager will play a key leadership role across multiple projects, providing strategic oversight and operational support to project teams. This position focuses on ensuring consistent delivery performance, supporting Project Managers, and driving both commercial and technical excellence across the business.
You will act as a senior point of contact across projects, helping guide delivery teams while maintaining a clear focus on programme, cost, quality, and safety outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Providing leadership and direction across multiple civil construction projects
- Supporting and mentoring Project Managers and site teams to achieve delivery targets
- Monitoring project performance, including programme, cost control, and risk management
- Driving consistency in project delivery systems, processes, and reporting
- Overseeing resource planning and allocation across projects
- Contributing to commercial strategy including forecasting, budgeting, and margin improvement
- Ensuring high standards of health, safety, environmental, and quality compliance
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, and key stakeholders
- Supporting tender reviews, methodology input, and project planning where required
Skills And Experience
- 10+ years’ experience in civil construction, within New Zealand
- Proven experience delivering medium to large-scale infrastructure projects (e.g. three waters, structures, pipelines, or heavy civil works)
- Strong leadership background managing multiple project teams or business units
- Excellent commercial acumen, including cost control, forecasting, and contract management
- Ability to influence, mentor, and develop high-performing teams
- Sound understanding of construction methodologies and project delivery frameworks
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or similar (preferred)
